Nowadays, more and more young men influenced by western culture are terrified by marriage or wedding. These people are terrified by the concept of getting married. For them, wedding means responsibility and the end of their freedom. Once get married, their lives will be buried in a tomb. For them, Wedding means forever.
In some countries, like China, marriage, or to be exactly, wedding means that we will spend the rest of our life with a guy or a girl with whom we are going to celebrate our marriage with a ceremony. After this ceremony, we got what we are pursuing for, staying together forever, which is what we Chinese people dream for. However, in some other countries, like Australia and Canada, forever is a terrible word. They pursue freedom. I heard a story about two young men who broke up because they have different understanding about the meaning of wedding.
A young man called John who is from Canada fall in love with a beautiful Chinese girl who is brought up under the traditional Chinese culture. They love each other so much that, one day, the girl said the following to John. “John, let’s get married! After that we could be together forever.” However, john was terrified by the concept, forever. Because this kind of wedding, in his concept, means he will lose his freedom forever. So the young man turned down the proposal. The girl was sad because she thought that the man never loved her so much as she loved him. In the end, their love came to an end.
We can’t say who is wrong, for they were born in different countries and educated under different country cultures. There is never a definitely answer for this question. But in my opinion, we, no matter under what kind of culture we are brought up, should bear one thing in mind wedding is sacred because it means that we are in love with someone and we want to prove it and let it be known by the society by a ceremony called wedding. So, in this way, we could say that wedding does not mean forever. Our freedom is not locked by wedding.
If we are clear about this, wedding will only means happiness. And every young men and women who are going to get married will be eager to prepare their wedding dresses and suits.
