Winter Wedding Theme and Favor Ideas

Winter weddings are glamorous affairs. It may be cold outside, but your wedding will be warm all while reflecting the beauty of the season. Whether you have your ceremony outside on a snow covered land or keep everything indoors, you can always make your wedding as magical and dreamy as a snowfall itself.

Popular color schemes for winter weddings include icy blues, sparkling silvers and snowy whites. If your scheme is any of the above or even a combination of the three, finding winter wedding favors to match is a simple task. The selection of winter favors is immense, with everything from snowflakes to more holiday-inspired favors like nutcracker place card holders.

Another popular color scheme for winter weddings is a Christmas inspired palette, with reds and dark greens highlighted with silver and/or gold. Your bridesmaids will look lovely in red – it is a warm, inviting color – during these chilly months. Have your tables adorned with poinsettias in red or white and use accents such as ornaments as place card holders and favors for your guests.

You can’t go wrong with snowflake favors. After all, winter means snow! Create a romantic glow at your event by displaying snowflake candle holders with tea lights inside: you can opt for snowflake shaped glass tea light holder or a votive with snowflake cutouts – the light from the candle will shine through the designs. Another great winter favor idea is snowflake ornaments. Display them by hanging them on horizontal branches or even an elegant crystal tree. You can even find snowflake place card frames, tie strings to them and hang them that way too.

Crystal favors – even if they’re not winter inspired – are another great winter favor idea. Crystal favors look beautiful when displayed out of the packaging, since the right lighting will make them sparkle and shine. Angel favors are also a popular winter favor. From choice crystal angels to generously sized ornaments, you’d be surprised at the vast selection of angel favors available today. Angels are a popular choice because of their meaning and because they aren’t necessarily religious in nature. For example, you could give each guest a “guardian angel” to take home and keep watch over them.

Ideas for a Butterfly Themed Wedding

Having a butterfly wedding theme will make your ceremony and reception truly memorable and unique.

Butterfly Releases
A popular trend of releasing butterflies at weddings may sound like a good idea. You may have the photo of your beautiful send-off pictured in your head all ready. However, wildlife experts caution against such practices. Transported butterflies may arrive dead or sick. They can also lose their way when migrating south from the area to which they are shipped. Importing a non-native species to an area can cause environmental problems for native species. The North American Butterfly Association recommends using rose petals as an alternative.

Butterflies at the Reception
Incorporating your butterfly wedding theme into the reception is relatively easy to do. They can easily be worked into the cake, centerpieces, and favors.

Butterfly Wedding Cakes
Using a wedding cake topper that has butterflies in it is an easy way to put butterflies on your wedding cake. You could also have your decorator make gumpaste or royal icing butterflies and affix them to your cake. Place sticks with butterflies on the top into cupcake wedding cakes.

Butterfly Centerpieces
Make wedding reception centerpieces unique by having butterflies placed in them. Candles with faux butterflies in the wax can make a great addition. Floral arrangements can always be livened up by placing wire butterflies in them. Make a more unique centerpiece by having a butterfly net hang from the ceilings down over the tables (be sure to check with your reception site for rules regarding ceiling hangings). Have fake butterflies affixed to the sides of the netting and “hanging” in the center of the net using a wire.

Butterfly Favors
Have favors that relate to your butterfly wedding theme to complete the overall look of your wedding. You may want to give out seeds for flowers that attract butterflies. Or hand out bookmarker favors with butterflies on the top.

Bridal Contract Makeup

You will want your bridal contract makeup to be flattering and natural looking. A professional makeup artist will consider the type of makeup that will look best for photographs, as well as the setting of your wedding. An outdoor wedding will require different techniques than an evening wedding that is held indoors. Similarly, black and white photographs require different makeup techniques than color photos.

Here are some tips for the perfect bridal makeup:

Keep your look natural. You want to enhance your features and look like yourself on your wedding day. This is not the time to experiment with extreme application techniques or colors.

Consider airbrush makeup. This technique will give you a light foundation that provides flawless coverage for a beautiful appearance. This is a great way to achieve flawless looking skin for photographs and is also a popular way to cover tattoos that you may not want to draw attention to on your big day.

Avoid bright, overly dramatic makeup. Try neutral colors instead.

Choose waterproof mascara.

Choose a foundation according to your skin type. Try one that is waterproof so it will last all day.

Select a long lasting lip color that isn’t too dark.

Bring your wedding veil to your appointment for hair or makeup. That terrific look may not work once you put on a veil or head piece.

Have the right lighting. If you are planning an outdoor wedding, for example, you will want to see how your makeup will look in natural lighting. If you don’t make sure before hand, you may be in for an unwelcomed surprise.

Rebecca + Todd’s Backyard Dreams

Rebecca + Todd's Backyard Dreams1“It was absolute crush-at-first sight,” says Rebecca of meeting Todd through a mutual friend on a freezing cold night in New York City. Sparks flew when the pair shared a kiss under the 59th Street Bridge, but it wasn’t until the following summer that the New Yorkers made their relationship official. “We started spending long, lazy days on the beach together in the Hamptons, where both of our parents have houses, and came to realise that we had all the same interests and values – not to mention amazing chemistry. We’ve been inseparable ever since.”

Rebecca + Todd's Backyard Dreams2After Todd proposed, there was only one venue option on their list: Rebecca’s parents’ country home in stylish Bridgehampton, NY. It’s a farmhouse, over 100 years old, surrounded by the most beautiful apple orchards.

Rebecca + Todd's Backyard Dreams3The big day itself was all about whimsical elegance, and Rebecca’s stunning dress played a crucial role in creating that vibe – not surprising given her job as a trend expert on style bible Cosmopolitan. “The dress had glamour, plus that sense of fun I really wanted,” she says. “The moment I tried it on, I could picture myself running through the apple orchards in it. It actually helped inspire much of the styling and décor for the entire wedding.”

Rebecca + Todd's Backyard Dreams4Rebecca’s seven bridesmaids wore floor-length luxe-bohemian maxi dresses in shades of soft blue and purple, and carried bouquets of mauve and lavender roses with garden sage. “My mother and I designed the dress, then had a dressmaker create the pattern,” Rebecca says. The chic, fluid gowns were so well-received, she’s started a dress line called LoveShackFancy.“I wanted the girls to feel sexy and gorgeous and have a dress they could wear again,” Rebecca explains of the design.

Floral designer had covered it with hundreds of English roses to match Rebecca’s bouquet, so it looked as if it had been a part of the garden for decades.

Rebecca + Todd's Backyard Dreams8The couple wanted it to feel like guests were strolling through the south of France and suddenly discovered all of these amazing markets in the countryside.

Rebecca + Todd's Backyard Dreams9The couple’s theme (which Rebecca sums up as “south of France meets Great Gatsby meets Miss Havisham’s mansion in Great Expectations) came fully to life inside the dinner tent. Guests sat at long tables on chairs draped in ivory linen and tied with burlap string.

Rebecca + Todd's Backyard Dreams10“We wanted to dance under the full moon until the late hours of the morning, and we did!” Rebecca says. At 1am, they escorted guests from the tents to the pool for a chilled-out after-party with a crêpe station, free-flowing drinks and more music – plus a special pool plunge by the newlyweds.
